NATIONAL TREE SEED CENTRE, KAMPALA, UGANDA – FACILITIES & SERVICES:
The Seed Centre has modern facilities to carry out seed collection, processing, testing, storage, and distribution to meet a significant proportion of the country’s seed demand.
The Seed Centre has identified, described and certified seed sources of selected priority trees species, which are used as basic materials for the provision of good quality seed.
Services offered by National Tree Seed Centre:
The Centre operates in a business like manner, generating own revenue to meet operational costs and expenses. This it does through offering a mixture of paid-for services such as training of tree nursery manager, sale of tree seed and seedling. Today, the Centre has expanded into grafting of fruit trees that are heavily demanded by the clients.
The Centre offers the following specific services:
– Training within the technical areas (seed handling, seed testing & storage, seed documentation, basic safe tree climbing, and tree improvement and gene source conservation).
– Storage and testing of seed collected by other user groups/individuals.
– Importation of seed, which is not available locally on demand.
– Provide advisory services (professional and technical advice within the technical fields covered).
